Your Guide to a longer lasting wrap …
The team at Einstigns Vehicle Graphics & Signage have prepared this handy guide to help you maximise the appearance and longevity of your wrap. In this guide, we’ll cover post-install care, washing and maintenance, and some tips on how to judge when your wrap has come near to the end of it’s term. Post-Install Care …
For the first week after install, you will need to use extra care as the vinyl will still be curing and settling onto your vehicle. This period is when the vinyl is the most vulnerable to water ingress and detaching from the vehicle.
- Avoid full or deep car washes, instead spot clean by soaking with plain water to soften and a clean cloth to gently remove bug splatters and bird droppings.
- Avoid pulling or lifting the edges of the vinyl as this may prevent the edges from curing and increase the likelihood of the vinyl detaching.
- If you notice any lifting or bubbling, return the vehicle to our workshop for inspection as soon as possible. Repairs are more effective the sooner that they are noticed and addressed.
Washing and Maintenance …
Once the vinyl wrap has finished settling onto your vehicle, you can resume washing it fully, however there are some additional steps that you should take to ensure its longevity.
- The best place to store wrapped vehicles is parked undercover or inside a garage to minimise exposure to extreme weather elements.
- Wash the vinyl wrap fully every 1-2 weeks with a pH neutral non-wax/polish cleaner to remove contaminants such as bug splatters, bird droppings, oil, grease and fuel.
- Avoid using brush/contactless automatic car washes, pressure washers or abrasive cleaners as these will damage the vinyl.
- Alternate parking positions to spread out regular sun exposure on the vinyl.
Tips on when to remove your wrap …
While you can extend the life of your vinyl wrap with careful maintenance, the vinyl will eventually deteriorate over time. This stage will be noticeable when the vinyl begins to discolour in patches, the edges may start to lift, or sections (particularly near severe recesses) will harden and crack.
Once you notice these changes start to happen, bring the vehicle to our workshop for an inspection as the vinyl may need to be removed. If the vinyl is left for too long, the top layer will deteriorate and expose the adhesive which can harden onto your vehicle. At this point, it may not be possible to remove the adhesive without damaging the paintwork.
